Prepare for Your First Visit
Your first cancer treatment can be stressful, but we’re here to support you every step of the way.
When you arrive, please check in at the front desk and bring your ID, insurance cards and a list of current medications and supplements.
Your first visit will focus on education. You’ll meet your care team, who will explain your treatment and any lifestyle adjustments. You’ll talk about possible side effects and how to manage them.
Treatment locations vary based on your needs. Chemotherapy is provided by Illinois CancerCare and Mid-Illinois Hematology & Oncology Associates, Ltd., and may take several hours. Radiation treatments at OSF Cancer Center are usually quicker. We offer reading materials, snacks, drinks, blankets and pillows to help keep you comfortable. Or you’re welcome to bring those things from home.
