Dr. Aaron Shiels is a board-certified gastroenterologist. He received his medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, where he also completed his internal medicine residency and gastroenterology fellowship.
Dr. Shiels is a clinical associate professor of Medicine at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford. He remains active in medical student teaching in the classroom and clinical setting.
Dr. Shiels advocates for his patients on a national level, having served on the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Health and Public Policy Committee and the Reimbursement Committee. He is also a member of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, American Gastroenterological Association, American College of Gastroenterology, Illinois State Medical Society and Winnebago County Medical Society.
Dr. Shiels maintains an interest in pancreatic, biliary and liver diseases, including the treatment of hepatitis C.
He enjoys playing golf, running and spending time with his family.
