Dr. Zalduendo grew up in the greater Chicagoland area. He became committed to helping cancer patients after he witnessed a close relative suffer before succumbing to the effects of the disease. I chose radiation oncology because I saw the positive effects treatment had on patients, and I saw some patients who had been rendered cancer free at the end of treatment, he said. What I love about it is the advancement in technology that offers patients better and more sophisticated treatment with less side effects. Dr. Zalduendo wants patients to feel welcome and relaxed when they visit. He also wants them to understand their treatment, to help limit the fear and uncertainty they may feel. He explains what radiation is, how it benefits them and how it will affect their general well-being. The doctor and his wife have three children. In his spare time he enjoys outdoor activities, like snow-boarding and water skiing. He likes to travel with his family, too, especially to the national parks. He also spends two days a month volunteering in a Bible study program with the detainees at Cook County Jail.
