Dr. Butterfield, originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, has worked in internal medicine at OSF HealthCare Saint Anthony's Health Center for 32 years. He attended St. Louis University School of Medicine and completed his residency at St. Mary's Health Center in Clayton, Missouri.

He initially entered medicine with the intent of doing research. After doing clinical rotations in medical school, he became attracted to patient care, and chose internal medicine due to the broad depth of the specialty, as well as the direct interaction with patients.

"My initial goal is for patients to be comfortable discussing issues with me that they may not always find easy to discuss," Dr. Butterfield said. "And the ultimate goal is to come up with a health care plan that the patient agrees with and makes them feel like a partner in their own treatment."

He enjoys spending time with his wife, 6 children, and 2 grandchildren. He also likes to read and work in his garden.
