My goal is to provide timely, effective, and evidence-based treatment that gives congenital heart disease patients the best chance of success without losing sight of the compassion and honesty that are the cornerstones of the relationship with patients and their families.
Intellectual interests, personal experience and a desire to help others drew Dr. Harma Turbendian to a career in medicine.
"Congenital cardiac surgery is a mental, technical and emotional challenge that encourages constant growth and self-improvement so you can help others," Dr. Turbendian said. "As a medical student watching one of my mentors, I fell in love with the opportunity to work in a highly gratifying specialty that combines the use of my mind, hands and spirit."
Dr. Turbendian was drawn to OSF HealthCare by the organization's commitment to the community and the cohesive team approach to caring for patients with congenital heart disease. He believes in clear communication as an important tool for patient care.
"Patients should come away with a clear, concise, and honest picture of the issue that needs to be treated, the reasons to treat, the alternatives and the expectations of surgical repair," Dr. Turbendian said.
