Dr. Surla chose to work at OSF HealthCare because she wholeheartedly believes in the organization’s commitment to delivering high quality care to all patients. She finds it rewarding to make a substantial impact on the health and well-being of people who encounter unique challenges in accessing medical services.

Dr. Surla likes to get to know patients as individuals and works together with them to create a plain-language, integrated treatment plan.

She knew since early childhood she wanted to be a doctor. As a young girl, she carried a plastic stethoscope around and visited Children’s University Hospital with her mother, who worked there. She became fascinated with health care during her visits there and was determined to pursue a medical career.

Dr. Surla was drawn to the gastroenterology field during her early medical school rotations. Following graduation, she participated in research and observation in the Northwestern University hepatology/liver transplant department.

She likes cooking and enjoys outdoor activities in her free time.
