Providing great care starts with listening, then working with every patient on the best course of treatment for their needs. I find so much joy in giving people the tools they need to take charge of their health outside the hospital.
Lindsay Satterlee, APRN, grew up in Reynolds, Illinois, a rural town near the Quad Cities. In school, she was very interested in the sciences and medicine.
"While in college, I worked as an order entry clerk to get medical experience and make sure I wanted to enter the profession," Lindsay said. "I got to interact with many of the general surgeons, who often talked about surgery with me and allowed me to shadow them on the job.
"I love surgery because you get to immediately intervene and fix a problem. I enjoy the challenge and concentration that comes with fixing a surgical issue."
For Lindsay, communication is key to collaborative patient care.
"I like to ask a lot of questions to make sure you are well understood," Lindsay said. "I like to explain the purpose of the treatment and give alternative options, when available. I want patients to know it is okay to ask questions and write things down."
Lindsay and her husband, Ryan, have a dog, Thatcher. In her free time, Lindsay volunteers with the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois on their scholarship selection committee, helping people realize their higher education ambitions. She also volunteers with the Park Ridge Newcomers Association, a women's social and philanthropic organization.
