Dr. Anderson’s parents played a big role in him becoming a doctor.
“Both of my parents were pre-med students,” he said. “They didn’t become doctors, but I was influenced by the medical field because of their interests. In fact, when I was eight years old, I asked for a stethoscope for Christmas!”
In high school, he was able to spend some time with local physicians due to his father’s connections. This helped to solidify Dr. Anderson’s interest in medicine.
“I pursued biomedicine at Benedictine University due to their program that guaranteed a spot in medical school,” he said. “I was drawn to surgery because I enjoy working with my hands.”
Dr. Anderson finds the complexity of the surgeries he performs very rewarding, and it keeps him doing what he does.
“The thought that I can extend the life of a patient with cancer because of my surgical skills is particularly rewarding,” he said.
In the office, Dr. Anderson believes it’s his job to make patients feel comfortable but also educate them about what is happening. He discusses treatment options, risks and benefits. Together you will decide on the best way to move forward.
Dr. Anderson is married with six children as part of a blended family. He loves outdoor activities like skeet/trap shooting, hunting and fishing.
