Medical care is a collaborative process, a partnership, where my primary responsibility is to inform the patient. Inform them of their disease process and the options available to address that issue. Then we come to a treatment plan together.
Dr. Ward chose to work at OSF HealthCare because he feels that a faith-based outlook on health care is important while the focus remains on the patient and their well-being, not the bottom line.
“Being a patient is an unnerving position to be in, and having been a patient, even with my experience in medicine, I am nervous. I forget the questions I planned on asking, and anxiety replaces reason,” he said. “During an appointment, I try to slow things down and assure the patient I am here to listen and appreciate the trust the patient is placing in me.”
Dr. Ward has a broad background in general surgery, including reflux (heartburn), laparoscopic and open hernia repair, gall bladder disease and surgery, breast surgery, appendectomies, colonoscopies and upper endoscopy, colorectal surgery, colon cancer, general laparoscopic surgery, port placement and removal of lesions and masses. In addition, he was the medical director of a vein center and has treated symptomatic varicose veins for over 20 years.
Dr. Ward moved to Illinois for college and truly loves the values and people of the Midwest. In his spare time, he enjoys gardening, traveling and is a passionate scuba diver and skier.
